According to the Trade Show Exhibitors Association (TSEA), exhibitors are planning to attend fewer shows and spend less on the shows they do attend.
TSEA conducted a survey of show exhibitors between December 2008 and January of 2009. Here, the survey revealed that companies attending several shows a year, up to 30 in 2008, will reduce the number of shows attended by about 5 shows in 2009. Also, an average decline of about 17% may be expected as well.
On a lighter note, survey respondents still reported that about 1/3 of their company's marketing budget will be focused on trade shows.
