One of the most bicycle friendly states in the U.S., Oregon, has introduced a bill that, if passed, will require the registration of bicycles. This means that bicycle owners throughout the state could be subject to registration fees.
Although the bill was introduced, some who are close to the proposal feel that the bill doesn't stand a chance and some representatives have argued that bicycle users already pay a good share of taxes in the state. Others believe that the bill is just another way to squeak out slightly more revenue in a turbulent economy.
The bill notes that revenues related to the registration process will support the development and maintenance of bicycle related accommodations, such as roads and trails.
